This book offers assistance to claims professionals who don’t have the time or resources to spot the red flags that identify fraud. The twenty best practices in this book relates to hiring the right employees, engaging in preventative maintenance throughout the life of a claim, determining who should conduct an investigation when a claim is filed and carrying out the investigative process using a variety of tools.
The introduction of the book touches on Mario’s background working for his parents’ firm. Prior to founding Alliance Risk Group, Mario worked for fifteen years as a private investigator in a family-owned firm and conducted in excess of 2,500 hours of field investigative work, skip-tracing, asset investigations and locating missing persons, heirs and witnesses.
In one of excerpt from the book, Mario writes:
“I can even recall having to enter a shopping mall after a subject to try to find out what they were up to – who would have ever suspected a twelve-year-old investigating someone? Nobody! In retrospect, it was probably the perfect “cover” for doing surveillance.”
Mario Pecoraro received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and at the age of 24, took his NYS Private Investigation exam not realizing the minimum age requirement was 25. After he received his license, he was told he was the youngest private investigator ever to be licensed in the State of New York! He went on to found Alliance Risk Group. in 2005 with a few loyal employees and a lot of determination. In 2011, Mario received the 40 under Forty Award by the Albany Business Review, an annual program that identifies and celebrates the achievements and promise of 40 outstanding business people under the age of forty. Today his multi-million dollar company employs more than 25 professionals and includes divisions that handle employment screening, background investigations, insurance fraud surveillance, service of process/litigation support and claims adjusting.
